There are so many videos out there of women sharing all the things they’re packing in their hospital bags, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t watch those if you’re pregnant, but most of the ones like that I’ve seen are filmed by women who have never had a baby & so they truly don’t know what they will need yet. And I think watching these videos makes a mom-to-be think they need to bring with a million things in order for them and their baby to be okay & that’s just not true.
And if you’re pregnant and get one thing from this blog, it should be to keep it simple in regards to packing your hospital bag.
I have had two babies, both at different hospitals and here are the things I will actually pack for future babies, categorized by who it’s for.
Mom
one comfy outfit (I mainly had just the hospital gown on until I went home)
nursing bra
toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash)
pony tail for hair
Baby
couple outfits in different sizes (one newborn, one 0-3 month)
pacifier (if you want your baby to take one)
Dad
couple outfits
toiletries (same as mom)
comfy shoes
pillow/blankets for the night(s) on the couch in the room
phone charger
something to do depending on how the stay goes (like a book)
Both my hospital stays were incredible! I did one night for my son and two nights for my daughter (she had jaundice and needed more time on the lights). My hospitals gave me all the postpartum things I would need and sent home extras with me too, so I realized I didn’t need to bring my own stuff; I could save that and use them once we got home.
Obviously, every mom is different in what she wants, but this is truly all you need.
