My husband and I are not a fan of our kids having 24/7 access to technology. It’ll be a while until they have phones and computers/iPads; those things are just not for us. We know too well how they can negatively impact children.
But, we are okay with limited tv, especially since we have both a 1 and 2 year old. Sometimes, we just need a minute to cook dinner without screaming kids and tv can come in handy.
But, we only have a few shows we’ve approved for them to watch and I’d like to share them with you. And, we currently don’t have a tv in our living room purposefully so this helps a lot with limited technology usage.
Ms. Rachel
This was basically the first show we found for our son. Ms. Rachel is on YouTube and is a preschool teacher who turned to making YT videos about kids’ speech after her own son struggled. She has branched out and created content geared towards not only babies but toddlers too. She adds sign language, songs, dance, visuals, and social skills into her content and it’s amazing! My son learned so many words and sign language from watching her videos.
Blippi
This is my son’s all-time favorite thing ever. He is obsessed with Blippi. Blippi is also on YouTube. We mainly show the episodes about vehicles. But, they’re cool because he teaches about the vehicles- the parts, how they work, etc. He does it all in a very kid-friendly way. My freshly turned two-year old will audibly laugh out loud, and he’s literally learned so much about vehicles. He’ll talk about putting gas in the lawn mower, monster trucks doing wheelies, trucks going fast, etc. It’s really cool and he’s learned actual life skills from watching. Blippi will also talk about vehicles while also teaching colors, numbers, etc.
Bluey
This is my newest find. I had heard so many Christian families rave about this show. Sadly, we don’t have the platform to stream all the episodes, but there are some on YouTube we’ve shown my son & you can also buy episodes on Amazon too (we might need to do that). The cool thing about about Bluey is that the show really emphasizes social and emotional well-being for kids and families. It gives real-life family scenarios and how to deal with them in a healthy manner, using cartoon characters. My son seems to enjoy it! And the episodes are short which is nice!
Mr. Rogers
My husband loves Mr. Rogers and my mom, knowing that, gave us some discs of Mr. Rogers’ episodes. My husband will occasionally put them on for him and my son. My son is pretty engaged. Mr. Rogers is a very wholesome, chill guy who teaches valuable lessons with puppets, gadgets, etc. It’s a very non-overstimulating show!
Skateboarding
So, my husband loves skateboarding and in turn, my son also loves it (he even has his own toddler-sized skateboard). So, my husband wanting my son to grow in this skill, will show him skateboarders doing their thing. This is a fun thing for them to do together that is also teaching my son more about a hobby he likes and maybe will grow up really enjoying like my husband does.
Do your kids watch any of these shows?
